With the rewrite of his personality in the remake, Mercer is now obsessed with making the Marker start Convergence, to the point that his death scene is now him literally begging for Convergence, to no avail. So to clear up the misconceptions, here's what the remake tells us:įirst, we've got Mercer's character. Why does it want to go back to Aegis VII? Why does it want to go back to its base ? Those are elements that we've been improving by building on top of elements of that are coming from the book or later elements in Dead Space 2.Īnd it turns out, the remake does answer this pretty definitively, and yet every time this question has been asked in this sub since it came out, people still get the lore completely wrong, with people claiming "this Marker isn't like the others" and "it doesn't want Convergence" and getting upvoted. However, the developers for the remake were aware of this, and did rectify this issue.
If you were to ask fans of the franchise, you'd get a different answer every time, because the truth is there was no "official" answer, as the lore wasn't thought out at the time, so all we could do was speculate based on what came after. So, for nearly 15 years, there were discussions about what the Marker's goal was in the original game, and why it wanted to be returned to Aegis VII.
